How to Create the Perfect Meal Plan

meal planner with grocery list pdf

Don't know if you noticed but I love nothing more than sharing beautifully designed and helpful printable on my blog. This week I am just in time for the holidays. Now I will admit in the past, I truly dreaded the holidays they were always just an excuse to have a break from school.  But now that I have a family of my own, making the holidays special is important to me. During the holidays proper food storage and servings seem to go out the door. Over the past 4 year, I've become a food-Nazi about proper food prep, storage, and overall kitchen hygiene. Primarily because I get stomach bugs quite often, this stopped completely when I changed my diet and followed these simple steps.

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

 proper food store

When meal planning it is importance to portion appropriately this will reduce you're out of pocket cost, food waste, and keep you looking slim. With Christmas around the corner I know you could use those extra dollars to get yourself a great gift! Here are my quick tips for how to properly store your food to ensure you get the most bang for your buck, by reducing food waste.

  • Store food should within 2 hours of cooking
  • Discard any food left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours
  • Eat cooked leftovers within 4 days (of cooking)

proper serving sizes

Because it's the holidays I wanted to provide you guys with my quick guide to proper serving sizes for some of my favorite holiday dishes. If you were serving Thanksgivings for 4 adults, this would be the recommended serving size for every to eat twice.

  • Mac & Cheese=4 cups
  • Greens=4 cups
  • Stuffing or Dressing=3 cups
  • Turkey=1.5 lbs
    • Of course it would be impossible to find a half pound turkey.
    • My Recommendations
      • Turkey meatloaf
      • Turkey breast
      • Chicken (whole)
      • Cornish Hens

RANDOM STORY

I loved this app! I recorded our entire inventory and used this to manage our household, until my phone was out of storage and I had to delete almost everything to even get the proper updates. So needless to say, I have yet to re-download this app and update my inventory again. The good news is you have to create an account when setting up the app so my previous entries are still stored! So if you overload on selfies like me and have to delete the app temporarily no worries.
